Macotakara also had the opportunity to run some system status and benchmarking tools on the new iPod Touch and the results showed that the A5-powered media device is on par with the iPhone 4S.

A Japanese YouTube user posted up a video showing him unboxing the fifth-generation iPod Touch which can be seen here.

The new iPod Touch comes in two different memory capacities: 32GB, and 64GB. The latter of these models will cost $399.

The media device features a thinner 6.1 mm frame and a 4-inch display, making it the same size as the upcoming iPhone 5. It comes with the A5 chip found in the iPhone 4 and is supposed to be 7 times faster than previous models. Users should be able to play 40 hours of music and 8 hours of video straight on its battery power.

It also features a 5-megapixel rear camera and a strap, making photography more appealing on the device. It can record video in 1080p and FaceTime in 720p. It can also take panorama photos. The headphone jack has been moved to the bottom left on the new iPod and it comes with the redesigned Ear Pod headphones Apple debuted at its iPhone 5 event.

It comes in multiple colors including silver, black, blue, yellow and red.

The new iPod Touch is expected to launch in the rest of the world some time before the end of this month.
