'Iron Man 4' News: Robert Downey Jr. Talks Fourth Installment of the Superhero Movie on 'Ellen'

Contrary to the public announcement made in the previous months, actor Robert Downey Jr. recently declared that he will be back for "Iron Man 4."

Oct. 7 on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," RDJ was asked by Ellen: "Will there be a fourth Iron Man?"

The 49-year-old Hollywood blockbuster icon first answered the show host quite hesitantly.

"I know there's going to be a bunch of Marvel movies and they have big ideas of how to do it best. You know we're in the middle of negotiations..." he trailed off.

Ellen pushed through the question, asking for a more concrete answer.

"So, yes?"

RDJ replied, "OK. Yes…yes."

The audience applauded.

In a previous interview with Deadline, "The Avengers" star stated that he will do the fourth installment of the superhero movie if it will be helmed by his actor/director friend, Mel Gibson.

"Marvel badly wants Iron Man 4 and you've said you aren't doing it. How about the idea you'll do that movie if Mel directs it?" the media outlet asked.

"Correct," Downey answered. "The movie will be bananas."

Later on, it was clarified that the Mel Gibson-thing was just an "offhanded remark."

"It was an offhanded remark to a journalist and friend. I have other project in mind for Mel and I-sooner than later the Marvel Roster will be made public and all the questions will be answered," Robert said when he spoke later with E! News.

Robert Downey Jr., who played the billionaire-playboy character Tony Stark and its alter ego, Iron Man, was paid over $50 million for its latest movie sequel.

Meanwhile, he has yet to appear, donning the red and gold armor, on the upcoming "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" which is slated to hit the theaters May 1, 2015.
