While many once feared the rumored retirement of the "Sherlock Holmes" star from the Iron Man franchise, new fears have stemmed from the issue that Marvel has not come to a good deal with Downey Jr. and his finance team.

Reports indicate that filming delay is due to the ongoing salary negotiations as the actor reportedly asked the studio for an increase in his $50 million-dollar talent fee.

Inquisitr says Marvel is considering the request since "Iron Man 3" was such a huge success as it raked in a whopping $1.22 billion in worldwide terms.

Robert Downey Jr. has been recently tagged as the world's highest-paid actor for three years consecutively, as it was reported that the actor obtained $80 million for his "Avengers: Age of Ultron" portrayal.

Another report emerged about his $40 million payout for his battle with the "First Avenger" in "Captain America: Civil War."

According to the Forbes list that put Downey Jr. on top, Jackie Chan followed behind with $50 million, and Vin Diesel wasn't far off with $47 million, while Jennifer Lawrence emerged as the highest-paid actress, making $52 million.

In a recent post on Instagram, co-star Gwyneth Paltrow uploaded a photo of her and Downey Jr. at the beach, raising speculation that filming may have started for the next installment.

Marvel has not issued a statement about the new rumor, while fans await the next Iron Man movie to spill more details.
