'Iron Man 4' News Latest: Will Marvel Studios Replace Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man?

Since negotiations between Marvel Studios and Robert Downey Jr. for "Iron Man 4" are still not set in stone, many fans are curious if the movie outfit will replace the 50-year-old actor.

According to Crossmap, Downey Jr. already "shut down the idea of 'Iron Man 4,'" making a lot of fans disappointed. Many "Iron Man" followers were already expecting a fourth installment of the series. However, the website added that the producers are only interested to make "Iron Man 4" if Downey Jr. will be replaced as Tony Stark/Iron Man, due to the actor's pay increase demands.

The website added that the actor is asking for a percentage of the earnings of the film, which is considered a lot, since the franchise is making tons of money. In another report, Parent Herald said that Downey Jr. is asking for $50 million salary increase, just to sign for "Iron Man 4." The actor already got $80 million for reprising his role in the last "Avengers" movie, the "Age of Ultron," making him the world's highest-paid actor, according to the Huffington Post. These pay demands make it more difficult for Marvel to reconsider Downey Jr. as "Iron Man."

There are rumors speculating that Downey Jr. will be replaced by the 13-year-old actor Ty Simpkins. Simpkins was already seen in the last "Iron Man" movie, where he portrayed Harley Keener and got nominated at the Saturn Awards for Best Performance by a younger actor. The young actor's filmography includes roles in the movie "Insidious," "The Next Three Days," and "Revolutionary Road."

However, critics think that the young actor won't be able to ever replace Downey Jr. According to Cinema Blend, even with an impressive resume, Simpkins won't be able to match Downey Jr. "It's a stretch to imagine that Marvel Studios believes he has the presence and charisma to replace Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man," the website explained.

A lot of changes might still happen, and fans are hoping that Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. will come into an agreement for the sake of "Iron Man" fans.
