Is 'Borderlands 3' Coming Soon?

"Borderlands" is a first-person action role-playing shooter video game series that is set in a space western/science fiction world. The first game of the series came out in 2009 and was widely well received. This was followed by a sequel game in 2012 and a prequel game in 2014, as well as several spinoff games. As of early 2015, it has sold over 25 million copies.

It is no wonder that fans of the game are beginning to wonder when they will get to see another "Borderlands" game.

In an IGN report, "Borderlands" developer Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford was asked whether a new game for the series was coming soon, and his response was "probably not." He qualified his answer however, by saying "it depends on how you define soon."

He continued by assuring fans that there will "certainly be more 'Borderlands,' but we need to figure out what that is. I don't even know if it's 'Borderlands 3,' but yeah. There are people working on 'Borderlands' things for the future at Gearbox but we haven't announced anything yet."

This was the same thing he said last year, when asked about the franchise and its future.

"When you think of what Borderlands 3 should be, it should be massive," Pitchford said. "It should be bigger and better than Borderlands 2. It should carry forward the story. ... We don't know what [Borderlands 3] is yet. We can imagine what it must achieve, but we don't know what it is yet."

Earlier this year, the franchise released an HD remastered collection of the first two games, which was made for current generation consoles, as well as a prequel that was developed by another game developer.

At the PAX 2015 in January, Gearbox had previously announced that they were "ready to start" working on the "next Borderlands."
