Is 'Neverwinter' Arriving on PS4 This Year?

"Neverwinter" is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online role-playing game that is part of the "Dungeons & Dragons" franchise. The game is currently available for PC through Steam and the Xbox One. Released in June 2013, the game has long been exclusive to the Microsoft platform. It may soon be coming to the Sony PlayStation 4 soon. The report said that PS4 may be coming within the year 2015.

The announcement came straight from the mouth of associate brand manager Trevor Kidd during a Wizards of the Coast livestream. Kidd said that the free-to-play title will be heading to the PS4 soon.

Until recently, neither the game's developer Cryptic Studios nor publisher Perfect World Entertainment have shared any news about when the game was arriving to the Sony current-generation console. The report said that the game will join the PS4's "impressive stable of MMOs," which includes "DC Universe Online," "Final Fantasy XIV" and "The Elder Scrolls Online."

The game is currently among the top free-to-play games for the Xbox One console, with over 1.6 million players playing it, which makes its expansion to the PS4 all the more logical.

The game offers players a chance to play as any one of the six character classes in "Dungeons & Dragons." The game's setting is Neverwinter, one of the many forgotten realms, which used to be a bustling location until the death of the last Lord of Neverwinter. Since then, factions have been battling for dominance of the city. IGN summarizes gameplay as follows: "In the free-to-play RPG Neverwinter, players choose to become one of five classic D&D classes and team up with friends or computer-controlled allies to form five-person co-op groups. Players also create their own storylines and quests utilizing user-friendly content generation."

No definite release date has been given for the PS4 version of the game.
