Is the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Coming Soon?

If Microsoft's actions are any indication, the latest incarnation of their tablet computer, the Surface Pro 4, may be unveiled soon. According to a Tech Times report, Microsoft has started slashing down the prices of its Surface Pro 3 tablets, which is said to be a usual marketing strategy implemented by Microsoft especially when they are close to unveiling new devices or products.

The Surface Pro 3 was revealed in May 2014 and became available in North America a month after. Companies such as Microsoft usually introduce a new iteration of a device every year and based on this schedule, Microsoft should be unveiling something soon.

Microsoft has implemented price reductions on selected Surface Pro 3 models. The Surface Pro 3 with 128 GB internal storage, 4 GB of RAM and a 1.9GHz Intel Core i5 processor is now available for $899, down $100 from its original $999 price tag. The variant that has 128 GB internal storage, 1.9 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, but with 8 GB of RAM is discounted at $1,149, from its original $1,299 price tag. The variants with Intel Core i7 processors also got price reductions - the 256 GB model is sold at $1,399 from its original price of $1,549, while the 512 GB model is sold at $1,799 from its original price of $1,949.

The basic 64 GB model of the Surface Pro 3 has not been discounted and still sells at $799.

The Surface Pro 3 has a 12-inch Full HD touchscreen display and is pre-installed with the Windows 10 Pro operating system. It also comes with the Surface Pen which serves as a stylus. It only weighs 1.76 pounds, but has the computing power of a high-end laptop.

With Microsoft keeping mum about what's in store for users with the Surface Pro 4, the Internet is being flooded with rumors about the specs of the upcoming tablet. According to a TechRadar report, the Surface Pro 4 may get boosted with a 13-inch or a 14-inch screen variant, in anticipation of the rumored iPad Pro, which may also have a bigger screen size. The report also indicated that the next-generation tablets may run on Intel's newest processor, Skylake.

In terms of launch date, the report also cited that an October media event may be likely and that the company may also be launching other products such as new Lumia handsets, a Surface Phone and the mobile version of Windows 10.
