Ivory Coast Missionary in Safe Hands

Dr. William Foster, Medical missionary who was held up by the rebels in Ivory Coast, is now safe and in good hands, reported by spokesman for LCMS World Missions, the mission arm of the St. Louis-based Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod.

Foster is a physician who served 8 years as LCMS missionary in Toulepleu, Ivory Coast. The rebels, who intended on ousting the current government, and fought the government ever since September, Foster was trapped when the rebels took over Toulepleu in November.

Rev. John Mueller, the mission board's director for missionary service, said Foster was with the French Red Cross, but declined to be more specific about the missionary's whereabouts.
