Jackee Harry Talks 'Brother White': 'You Have to Be Sincere'

Jackee Harry, better known simply as Jackee, has been a part of the entertainment industry for quite some time. She has been a prominent figure ever since her Emmy Award-winning role on "227." Harry took the time to speak with The Christian Post about what keeps her centered and her new film, "Brother White."

"Brother White" tells the story of a young man raised in the Mennonite tradition who leaves the community to preach at a church in South Central L.A. The film features veteran actors David A.R. White, Reginald VelJohnson from "Family Matters," and Bruce Davison. Harry was approached by the movie's writer, the original brother White to be in the film.

"He is such a sweetheart, and I just liked him. He's so successful, and when you meet him, he just has pleasantness about him. But he asked for me … and when I asked why he left. He has written a series of movies. He's just a pleasant guy," Harry explained.

"I asked him, 'Why do you want me to do this?' and he replied, 'You just seem pleasant to work with.' It just happened like that. Things just happen in mysterious ways. I'm mainly an actress, but sometimes you get projects that make you go, 'hmmm.'"

Harry noted that she "doesn't question" why things work out the way they do, and when talking about the ministerial profession, offers the following advice: "If you're in the ministry, don't play with it, don't joke, don't lie because it will catch up with you. People have needs and need someone."

In her own life, Harry stated that her beliefs are eternal and she knows she has divine guidance and protection.

"I know that to be true. You've got to be centered and there has to be something strong inside of you. You breathe through it. If you're being attacked by something on the outside, which I feel a lot being in show business, you just have to dial it back and breathe and know that you are protected," the actress continued.

One thing that's for certain, though, is that being centered is something "you have to develop. Right now I am trying to be in a place of calm, a place where I can chill out and then handle the chaos of life better. You don't just get it overnight; you have to work at it. It's a daily struggle," Harry explained.

"You can't fake it. I've tried," she noted. "You have to be sincere."
