Jada Pinkett Smith Gives Marriage Advice

Jada Pinkett Smith, the 42-year-old actress who married her actor husband 45-year-old Will Smith almost 20 years ago, is revealing how they sustain their marriage.

The "Gotham" actress insisted that a key to marriage is friendship.

"Your partner has to be your best, best, friend," she said, according to Extra TV. "And he's my best friend."

She went on to explain how she kept stability in her union.

"You have to have kind of a warrior mentality. You have to be a soldier for love," Jada told Extra. "You have to be able to withstand tough times and just because the tough times come doesn't mean it's time to stop … it means it's time to dig in."

The actress has been open about her marriage, but in the past she previously took to Facebook to let the world know that there were things more important than speculating about her union.

"Let me first say this, there are far more important things to talk about in regards to what is happening in the world than whether I have an open marriage or not," she previously wrote on Facebook. "I am addressing this issue because a very important subject has been born from discussions about my statement that may be worthy of addressing."

The Hollywood actress' statement came after people speculated about her saying that she gave her husband the freedom to do what he desired.

"I think because from how I've answered questions of 'girl you know what would you do if he came home and this and that [happened]?' or 'being married to a big superstar like Will, how do you deal with other women,'" Smith previously told Dr. Marc Lamont Hill of the Huffington Post. "And I've always told Will, 'You can do whatever you want as long as you can look at yourself in the mirror and be okay.'"
