James Van Der Beek and wife Kimberly are expecting their third child together, the former "Dawson's Creek" star announced. They already have daughter Olivia, 3, and son Joshua, 17 months and wanted to wait until the pregnancy was far enough along to announce the pregnancy.
"I feel ridiculously blessed. I feel so much love, honestly," Van Der Beek told People magazine.
"James and I are happy to report that we are expecting our third child this winter!" Kimberly wrote on her blog. "Nesting mode is starting to kick in. I've been getting rid of clutter, reconfiguring rooms, reorganizing EVERYTHING, etc. … My mind doesn't stop."
It was a bit of surprise, but Kimberly apparently had a sense that she could be pregnant. She took a pregnancy test that showed a negative result, but Kimberly had another thought and took one more a bit later.
"I thought, before I go traveling, maybe I should know how many glasses of wine are appropriate or not," Kimberly joked.
That second test did provide a positive result, and she is now five months along. The two parents-to-be could not be happier, though they do have questions about going from a two-child household to a three-child household.
"I was told two was three times as hard as one, and that three is actually not as big of a leap," Van Der Beek said. "If anybody knows otherwise, I'm going to ask them not to tell me. I never really had a preference [of the sex] with either one of the first two. We already have all the stuff for girls and boys, so there is no logistical reason to know, so we thought it would be fun to do it old school."
Both are not exactly surprised to be expecting a third child. Van Der Beek has joked that they are letting Mother Nature decide how many children they have.
"There are ways to prevent these things from happening – we don't do any of those things," he told People.
