'Jane the Virgin' season 2 cast news: Britney Spears stars as guest

The hit CW series "Jane the Virgin" is expected to have a special quest for its upcoming second season.

The previous season left off with Jane, played by Gina Rodriguez, giving birth. Therefore, the upcoming season will see her transitioning into motherhood after a hectic first season. While the actress has little to share about what to expect, she explained that all she knew was that she was going to deal with being a mother, and that she will be married in the near future. However, she does not know who she will be married to.

As actress Gina Rodriguez prepares for season 2 of the series, she shared her excitement regarding the role of Britney Spears in the episodes to come. She said, "The possibilities are endless. I'm VERY excited to have Britney Spears on as a guest. And I'm excited to explore motherhood with Jane ... the issues of motherhood, especially at a younger age like Jane is, and wanting to preserve her dreams, wanting to preserve herself."

Spears will reportedly take a break from her singing career to touch base with her acting skills. She will appear in an episode of the CW series. Her character is expected to be the nemesis of Regelio.

Rodriguez has finished production for her other projects, such as "Deep Horizon." She also is currently writing a book titled "I Can and I Will: Tools My Daddy Gave Me." The actress recently shared her sentiments of being a role model for Latinos and young adults.

Reports by Spoiler TV stated that Jane the Virgin will return a week earlier than the expected announced date. This means that the new CW series "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" will also premiere earlier than announced, which is expected to air before Jane the Virgin.

Jane the Virgin will return with season 2 on Oct. 12.
