Jared Leto Posts Photo of Self in Makeup Without Eyebrows (PHOTO)

Jared Leto has opened up about his dramatic weight loss for an upcoming role playing a transsexual woman with AIDS. The actor recently posted a photo of himself in makeup without his famous eyebrows, causing fans to call for their return.

Leto told Vulture.com that he was fasting for the role in order to drop a substantial amount of weight. He and Matthew McConaughey are both doing so for their parts in the upcoming "Dallas Buyers' Club," which portrays life with AIDS in the 1980s. Both have received a great deal of attention for their drastic weight loss, and fans are a bit concerned that the men may be unhealthily shedding the pounds.

"Your body goes through weird stages," Leto told Vulture. "Sometimes it's hard to hold on to water. But for me, it's not about the most weight I can lose; it's more to represent the character. I'm focused on what it means to be a transsexual woman. Historically, people have done it [fasting] for pursuit of self, to achieve a meditative state, so I'm hoping for that, and not other things."

Leto only joined the movie's cast a few weeks ago but has already made a dramatic transformation, one that includes waxing his legs and removing his famous eyebrows. Fans remember Leto's eyebrows fondly and are expressing their grief over their loss on Twitter and Facebook.

"Dear JaredLeto's eyebrows, I'll miss you greatly," tweeted MTV.

"Gah-Jared Leto shaved off his eyebrows!" added Glamour magazine.

This will be the first film featuring Leto since 2009's "Mr. Nodbody." Since then, he has been busy with his band 30 Seconds to Mars and a lawsuit against Virgin Records. He made a documentary entitled "Artifact" about the legal struggle; it debuted at the 2012 Toronto Film Festival and won the BlackBerry People's Choice Documentary award.

"Dallas Buyers' Club" is filming now and expected to be released next year.
