Jay-Z On Taxes: 'Most People Wouldn't Mind Paying More'

In an interview with CNN Money, Shawn Jay-Z Carter has said that most people in America would not mind being forced to pay higher taxes.

The rapper said, “Most people with a conscience and integrity wouldn’t mind paying more taxes after stating that he himself would pay more taxes if it was better defined where the money was going.”

The rapper voiced his support for causes that included healthcare, poverty, and education. He also announced that he would be holding two free concerts at New York Carnegie Hall, in benefit of the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation.

Jay-Z may be one of the first solo hip-hop artists to perform at Carnegie Hall and considered it an act which could further the hip-hop industry. He said "Any time that I get a chance to expand and broaden the reach of hip-hop is a great thing for me on a personal level.”

Jay-Z has been involved in philanthropy since 2006. He has supported the United Nations in increasing awareness and battling against global water shortage which included producing a documentary titled “Diary of Jay-Z: Water for Life.”

Following Hurricane Katrina the rapper responded with a song titled “Minority Report” and made a $1 million donation to The Red Cross. Jay-Z also voiced his support of Occupy Wall Street and said that it was good to see that "people can fight for a better world."

President Obama said of Jay-Z in a Rolling Stone article, "I enjoy how he thinks. That's somebody who is going to start branching out and can help shape attitudes in a real positive way."
