Jennifer Aniston, Chelsea Handler Rip Katie Couric: 'Getting Tabloid-y?'

Jennifer Aniston expressed a strong reaction after learning that Katie Couric questioned one of her close friends, Chelsea Handler, about her personal life.

The 44-year-old "We Are The Millers" star is engaged to actor Justin Theroux, and is no stranger to tabloid fodder over issues in her personal life.

Adding to the star's irritation with the media, Handler informed Aniston that, while on the "Katie" show, Couric asked Handler about Aniston's upcoming wedding.

"Katie Couric was asking me on her show about your wedding and I had to act like I didn't even know you were engaged because I didn't know that was out," said Handler on her television show "Chelsea Lately" on Wednesday.

"Then she was like, 'Well, everyone knows about it!' So I felt really stupid," 38-year-old Handler added.

Leaving no doubt about her annoyance, Aniston replied, "What's Katie Couric? Is she a legitimate journalist? Is she getting tabloid-y? Wasn't she on the 'Today' show?"

"She was on the 'Today' show," Handler answered. "She got a demotion to her own show."

Couric, 56, premiered her talk show "Katie" in September of last year, and it is slated for a second season this fall.

Aniston may not be the only person questioning the journalistic integrity found on "Katie."

The actress' comments about "Katie" arose just weeks after reports indicated that Couric was displeased about the "gossipy" direction in which her show may be headed.

"If there is one thing Katie hates more than being called 'perky' its being called 'tabloid,'" a source at the New York Post revealed in July. "She thinks of herself as a serious journalist, covering stories that make a difference. She's fighting this."

Furthermore, Couric is upset about her show being "dumbed down" and even wanted to cancel the show after season one, according to the paper.

Meanwhile, Aniston is currently filming the comedy "Squirrels to the Nuts" in New York City. It is expected in theaters sometime next year.
