Jesse Eisenberg Stars in Unusual Comedy '30 Minutes or Less'

Oscar-nominated “The Social Network” actor Jesse Eisenberg stars in the newly-released comedy, “30 Minutes or Less.”

Indolent pizza-delivery driver Nick, played by Eisenberg, is kidnapped and forced to rob a bank in this summer’s theater farce. With a bomb strapped to his chest, Nick seeks help from his former teacher and friend, Chet, played by “Parks and Recreation” actor Aziz Ansari.

The antagonist in “30 Minutes or Less” is played by HBO’s “East Bound and Down” star Danny McBride, who coerces Eisenberg’s character into committing the bank heist.

The plot of the film is based off of the real-life events in 2003 where a middle-aged pizza deliveryman claimed he was forced to commit a bank robbery. Pennsylvania’s Brian Wells had a bomb locked around his neck as he robbed a bank, and before experts arrived, the device detonated, killing Wells.

In 2007 a federal indictment suspected that Wells was a co-conspirator in the robbery, according to ABC News.

Also in Australian news last week, 18-year-old Madeleine Pulver had what was believed to be a bomb locked around her neck for ten hours, until experts finally removed it and announced it was fake.

Eisenberg told CBS News that the movie was “very funny and fast-paced and visually very interesting.”

The dark, high-concept comedy came in fifth this weekend, behind new films “The Help” and “Final Destination 5,” as well as holdovers “Rise of the Planet Apes” and “Smurfs.”

“30 Minutes or Less” raked in $13 million; less than the $17 million the film was originally predicted to earn.

The film's box office earnings are expected to increase in its second week out, according to the film’s production company, Celebration Cinema.
