'Jessica Jones' News, Update: Showrunner Says Upcoming Netflix Marvel Series Will Differ 'Tonally' With 'Daredevil'

"Jessica Jones" executive producer Melissa Rosenberg recently took the stage at the Television Critics Association Press Tour to represent Netflix and Marvel's upcoming superhero drama series on Tuesday. During the panel, she revealed a great deal of information about the scripted program which will see the acts of "Breaking Bad" star, Krysten Ritter, as the titular character.

For one, Rosenberg revealed that although "Jessica Jones" shares a lot of similar aspects with its brother show, "Daredevil" (starring Charlie Cox as the titular hero), there will still be a huge difference.

"'Jessica Jones' is a very different show from 'Daredevil,'" the showrunner said. "We exist in a cinematic universe, the mythology of the universe is connected, but it will look very different. Tonally they're very different. If you pick up Bendis' 'Alias' and pick up 'Daredevil,' they're wildly different. That was my one concern. Would I have to fit in with 'Daredevil?' The answer was, 'No, we're hiring you for your point of view.'"

Rosenberg meanwhile gave her praise to Brian Michael Bendis, the writer of the comic book series, from which the Netflix show took its source material.

"He created this incredibly flawed, damaged, interesting character. Regardless of gender, it was the character that drew me. We've been going further in all of our storytelling. There is no edge," he told The Hollywood Reporter.

For those who missed it, "Jessica Jones" is a drama that follows the exploits of a former superhero suffering from PTSD. She opens up her own detective agency which seeks to solve cases involving people with extraordinary abilities.

The show, which will consist of 13 episodes, is slated to premiere in late 2015.
