'Jessica Jones' Spoilers: Show Resembles a 'Thriller' More Than Typical 'Superhero' Show

The new web television series "Jessica Jones," that was created by Netflix, will be premiering on November 20, Friday. All episodes of the Netflix exclusive will be available for marathon viewing on the said date. In the run up to the series premiere, the network has released several teaser clips and trailers of the show, giving fans a glimpse of the main character of the show, Jessica Jones. According to a report in Design and Trend, the network even provided a sneak peek of episode 1 during the New York Comic Con.

According to the report, the show has a much darker flavor than the other Marvel show on Netflix, "Daredevil." The series touches on very mature issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder, assault and a manner of other violent crimes. Aside from this, the series also takes a look at issues of sexuality, which is expected because the original comics "Alias" which the show is based on, was one of the first R-rated comics of Marvel.

The report also noted that those expecting the show to be the typical Marvel superhero show are going to be disappointed. The show is, first and foremost, a psychological thriller and this is so because of the presence of the Purple Man as the series antagonist. Played by David Tennant, the Purple Man, also known as Kilgrave, seems to exercise some form of powerful mind control over the protagonist, Jessica Jones, played by Krysten Ritter. In one of the teaser clips of the series, his creepy voice is heard saying: "Jessica, I know your secrets. I know your friends. I know about your gifts. I know everything." He is also described as "An enigmatic figure from Jessica's past, Kilgrave's reappearance will send shockwaves through the former super hero's world." Although he may not appear as the Purple Man in the series, his role in haunting the series protagonist is quite evident as shown in the series trailer.

As for the main protagonist, another report in Den of Geek describes her as a former superhero who is trying to rebuild her life and career in Hell's Kitchen, New York City. She becomes a detective who specializes in cases that involve people with "extraordinary abilities." Based on the clips and the trailers, Jessica still possesses her superpowers but she is still very much haunted by her past and, more importantly, by the mind control that Kilgrave is doing on her.
