Jessica Simpson is reportedly so terrified about giving birth to her first child that she has forsaken her plans to have a natural birth and has instead opted for a C-section.

"The thought of going into labor scared the bejeezus out of her. She was so anxious, she was even breaking into cold sweats at night," a friend of Simpson told In Touch Magazine.

"She desperately wanted to experience the joy of a natural birth, but decided to go with what made the most sense for her," the friend added.

The 31-year-old, who is expecting a baby girl with fiancé, Eric Johnson, is due to give birth very soon but is struggling to remain calm about going into labor.

"Jessica has no tolerance for pain. She even turned to hypnotherapy to calm her fears about it, but nothing was working!" the friend said.

Simpson, who reportedly has a doctor on call at all times and a live-in nurse at her Beverly Hills mansion, has reserved a $500,000 birthing suite at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles in an attempt to ease the stress of her pregnancy.

While she continues to panic about her big day, Johnson, 32, has been helping the pregnant singer eliminate her fears about the birth.

"Eric is a calming force for Jessica, [he] is so excited about the birth," the friend said.

The couple, who put off having their wedding until after the birth of their baby, has reportedly also picked a name.

"They tossed around a lot of names, including some wacky ones like Zinfandel, but couldn't agree on anything," a family friend said.

"They're going to call her Maxwell, Maxi for short. Maxwell is Eric's middle name, and also his beloved grandma's maiden name. Jessica wanted a name with meaning," the friend added.
