Jodie Foster will make a paternity revelation when her children turn 21, according to a "family friend," reports have claimed.

The Hollywood actress has always kept the identity and circumstances surrounding the conception of her two children completely secret. However, according to the NY Post, the Rev. Beverly Bates - mom of producer Randy Stone - has revealed Foster made a promise to tell them everything when they turn 21.

Charles is aged 14, and Kit is just 12 years old, so there is still many years left before Foster needs to make good on her promise to the kids. However, celebrity news publications are making much of the fact that it was Bates who has broken the news about when Foster would reveal who her kids' father was.

Bates' son, Randy Stone, has long been rumored to the the boys' father. He died in 2007 aged just 48 after suffering heart failure.

Bates has said, "Randy told me that Jodie said she'll tell the boys who their father is when they're 21," according to The Daily Mail.

"He said he could never tell me because Jodie was his best friend. He said 'Mom, I can't discuss this with you.' He told me he had had to sign documents, it was a secret he took to his grave, that was how much he loved Jodie."

She added: "He said 'I can't break my promise to Jodie' -- and he kept his promise to her."

Foster attended the Golden Globes with her two boys on Sunday, where she was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The actress made headlines after making an obscure speech about her sexual orientation. She said, "I'm just going to put it out there, right? Loud and proud, right? So I'm going to need your support on this."

Many had expected her to reveal publicly that she was a lesbian - something that has been speculated about her for a number of years. However, she simply said, "I am single. Yes I am, I am single. No, I'm kidding — but I mean I'm not really kidding, but I'm kind of kidding. I mean, thank you for the enthusiasm."

Meanwhile, Bates has also said of the boys' paternity: "I would love to know if Randy is the boys' father, I personally think he gave Jodie the gift, but she will never tell me. And Randy made an agreement with Jodie that he would never tell. I know the boys have red hair and freckles, that's not from our family - but Jodie's side."
