Vice President Joe Biden celebrated on Saturday as his daughter, Ashley, married her doctor boyfriend, Howard Krein.
Biden and wife Jill issued a statement through the White House following the wedding saying, "The private ceremony was attended by the bride and groom's close family and friends.
"We're happy to welcome Howard into our family, and we wish them all the best in their new life together."
Ashley Biden works as a social worker for the Delaware Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families, whereas Krein is a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.
It has been reported that approximately 200 guests attended the wedding, which was taking place at the same church where Ashley was baptized when she was younger; St. Joseph on the Brandywine. It is believed the ceremony was a joint Jewish-Catholic affair.
Jill Biden had previously explained how Krein had gone about proposing to Ashley in a traditional fashion; asking the vice president father for her hand in marriage. Jill told The News-Journal: "He asked for Ashley's hand and of course Joe said yes."
The couple first met in 2010 and got engaged about a year after that, according to AP.
