John Paul II reaffirms the Christian roots of Europe
John Paul II reaffirmed on Friday that Christianity is a force able to promote, reconcile and reinforce the values which are important for Europe and for this reason, it seems logical that the future European Constitution explicitly mention the Christian roots of the continent.
The Pope, who received the participants to a meeting organized by Robert-Schuman Foundation, added that it would be unfair for todays Europe to hide the essential contribution of the Christians to the fall of oppressive systems of all kind but not to the construction of an authentic democracy.
