Johnny Lewis' Death Leaves More Mysteries: Drug Use, Ties to Scientology?

New details in the death of Johnny Lewis have emerged and do not paint a pretty picture of the actor's last hours. According to ABC News, police believe Lewis may have been high on a new combination of drugs known simply as "smiles" before going on a murderous rampage and falling to his death.

Catherine Davis, 81, was found strangled in her bedroom; police ascertained that she had died from blunt-force trauma and had been beaten to death, most likely by Lewis. Her cat was found in the bathroom, mutilated and dismembered, bringing even more horror to the situation.

According to witnesses, Lewis exhibited "superhuman strength," as he left the scene of the crime, ABC reported. It is possible that if he was high on "smiles," he would have the ability to do show great feats of strength but would also be suffering from aural and visual hallucinations.

"Smiles" is similar to a combination of MDMA and LSD, officials previously told Yahoo Shine. It can cause extreme body temperature, seizures, kidney failure and fatal blood pressure. The drug is relatively new but is just as potent, if not more so, than the infamous bath salts.

"Mr. Lewis at some point jumped over a fence into a neighbor's yard and for some reason attacked the painter who was over there painting the house. The painter and the homeowner were able to get away. He jumped back into his yard where he was staying and at some point shortly thereafter fell to his death," LAPD Cmd. Andrew Smith told ABC.

When police arrived, Lewis was already dead and found in the driveway of the home. Authorities are performing toxicology tests and waiting for results while trying to piece together what may have led to the outburst.

Lewis, famous for his role on "Sons of Anarchy," had just been released from jail before this latest incident police explained. He had previously been booked on assault with a deadly weapon and burglary.

And according to TMZ, Lewis had a history of drug and alcohol abuse and had been through a rehabilitation program run by the Church of Scientology. According to reports, he was an active member and even became a spokesman for the rehabilitation program; since his death, Scientologists have denied all ties to Lewis and removed his images from their website.
