Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier Rematch: Rematch Details Coming In A Few Days?

The rematch between current light heavyweight king Daniel Cormier and former champion and pound-for-pound mixed martial arts king Jon Jones is currently being set up.

According to UFC Vice President for Public Relations Dave Sholler during the UFC on FOX 18 post-fight presser last weekend, the company would be making the announcement by this week.

"We expect to have an announcement within the next couple of days here. Things are shaking out, and I think you guys are going to be pleased with the outcome," Sholler said.

However, according to a recent MMA Weekly report, the match does not have a definite date or venue yet, although UFC president Dana White did say on Wednesday that they are planning to hold the match in April.

The saga between Cormier and Jones dates back to August 2014, when both men were involved in a scuffle that nearly escalated to a full-on brawl during the UFC 178 pre-fight media day. The two were originally slated to face each other on the said card, which was scheduled for September of that year.

However, Jones pulled out of the said bout due to an injury, forcing it to be rescheduled for UFC 182 for January 2015. Still fueled by their long-standing grudge, Jones and Cormier battled it out to a five-rounder, with "Bones" emerging victorious via a dominant unanimous decision verdict.

But just after completing his eighth successful title defense at the time, things took a sour turn for Jones. After testing positive for cocaine in December 2014, the 28-year old fighter was involved in a hit-and-run accident in his new hometown of Albuquerque, New Mexico, in April.

The said misdemeanor forced the UFC to strip him of his belt and suspend him indefinitely.

This, in turn, created a bout between Cormier and Anthony "Rumble" Johnson for the then vacant belt. The bout took place at the main event of UFC 187 in May 2015, where Cormier won via third round submission.

"DC" was then able to successfully defend his belt against former title contender Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 192 in October. Cormier won the fight via split decision.
