Juan Manuel Marquez next fight rumors: 'El Dinamita' resumes training, still eyes Miguel Cotto [VIDEO]

Mexican boxing legend Juan Manuel Marquez is still adamant about next facing former Puerto Rican world middleweight champion Miguel Cotto.

The 42-year old boxer last fought in May 2014 against Mike Alvarado, where he won via unanimous decision. Since then, he has been kept in the sidelines due to a nagging knee injury, which at one point, even made him contemplate retirement.

But in April, the idea of fighting Cotto had come about, which "El Dinamita" openly welcomed. He even revealed that he was offered to fight current WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas, but chose to pursue the Cotto fight, instead.

"Jessie Vargas is a good fighter but for me it is more interesting fight with Cotto. Cotto's legacy is a great legacy too," Marquez said in a Boxingscene report.

Marquez added that while Vargas may have the belt in his possession, he says that the legacy that he would be leaving behind is more important to him. As of posting time, nothing has been made official and the Cotto camp has yet to declare their say on the matter.

But for his part, Marquez has gotten back in the saddle and began training in the Romanza Gym in Mexico.

"Now is the time that we start to train and we'll see how the body responds," Marquez said in an interview with ESPN Deportes (via Boxingscene).

The report adds that Marquez is eyeing for a return late in the year, either in October or November, noting that he is still hoping to face Cotto for his comeback. Cotto last saw action in November 2015, where he lost to current middleweight world champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

The fight ended via a unanimous decision, where Cotto subsequently dropped the WBC and Ring Magazine 160-pound titles in the process.

Marquez's most notable performance to date is his spectacular sixth round knockout victory against eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao back in December, 2012.
