The 49-year-old is a musician much like his father, but has had an inconsistent musical career that has seen six albums. Lennon just recently reemerged onto the music scene with his first album in 20 years, "Everything Changes."

Regardless of his success of failures, he recently divulged that he harbors no regrets about following his father into the music industry.

"Music's been with me from the get-go," explained Lennon speaking to the U.K.'s Metro. "It was always around me as a kid. Dad got me my first guitar when I was 11 and, at school, if you wanted to be cool you had to be in a band… Now, for me, it's about the creativity of songwriting."

Lennon also opened up about what it is like working in the same field as his famous father.

"I've had great reviews but there has been a negative force against me in the media with regards to me working in the music industry," said the singer and songwriter. "It was hard for some people to accept me. Some of the nicest reviews compare my work favorably with my dad's work. Some recently have been a pleasure to read."

He added of his career, "It was a tough road but I learned a lot."

Lennon also spoke out about portrayals of his father on film.

"I don't watch them," said the "Valotte" singer. "I know him from when I was with him and from being with Sean and Yoko, so it's redundant for me to see a film only to get upset at the misinformation in there."

Lennon has a younger half-brother, Sean Lennon, which John Lennon shared with his second wife, Yoko Ono.

Also on Sunday, Lennon made his new single "Guess It Was Me" available through his website, www1.julianlennon.com.

The singer posted on his Twitter account, "There maybe changes afoot…" and provided a link to the song.
