'Jurassic World 2' Gets 2018 Release Date

Universal Studios has pegged a date for the sequel of the box-office hit "Jurassic World" and it is set to bow in theaters on June 22, 2018, a Friday. It is the only movie so far that will be showing on that date. The sequel, temporarily called "Jurassic World 2" hopes to follow or top the success of the first movie which became the third biggest box-office film worldwide, even surpassing Marvel's "The Avengers."

According to a Forbes report, Steven Spielberg will be executive producer under Amblin Entertainment. He will joined by Frank Marshall. The film does not have a director attached to it yet, as Colin Trevorrow, who directed the first film, declined to helm the sequel. He will write the screenplay with Derek Connolly and will be an executive producer as well.

Chris Pratt is definitely returning to reprise his role as Owen Grady. Bryce Dallas Howard will also return as Claire Dearing. Beyond these two, no other casting confirmations have been made so far.

The Forbes report noted that the decision to do a sequel to the movie may largely be because of the film's overwhelming success in the box office which may also be due to Pratt's popularity. According to the report, unlike other franchises where sequels were planned out way in advance, "Jurassic World" was originally conceived to be a stand-alone movie.

It is not yet known what storyline the sequel will follow and how soon after the events of the first movie it will follow.

"Jurassic World" opened in June 2015 in various territories. By July 2015, it earned $1.522 billion in the worldwide box office, surpassing the earnings of "The Avengers." It bumped off "The Avengers" to become the third biggest blockbuster after "Avatar" and "Titanic." According to The Hollywood Reporter, this does not yet include possible earnings it may still get from Japan, which is the final territory it will be released in this August.
