Justin Bieber, subject of a reported murder plot, has been kept safe thanks to authorities. Three men, two of whom are already in prison, had allegedly planned to kidnap, castrate, and kill the pop icon, according to reports.
Dana Martin, currently serving two life sentences for the rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl, was the mastermind behind the plot, KRQE News 13 has reported. He planned to attack Bieber while he was in New York City for his tour in November last month.
Martin was not the sole member of this alleged assassination team, and managed to reportedly convince a former inmate, Mark Staake to assist him in the murder. Staake allegedly contacted his nephew, Tanner Ruane, to take out Bieber and his bodyguard, if necessary. Ruane went so far as to have a pair of pruning shears, allegedly to be used for the castration, in his possession.
The alleged plot fell apart when Martin contacted police and told them of the plan, saying that he couldn't go through with it because of his love for Bieber. Martin even has a tattoo of the star on one of his legs. Police arrested Staake and Ruane who had "murder tools" in their possession, KRQE noted.
Police are not sure what led Martin to target Bieber in the first place. An affidavit said there was a "bounty of $2,500 on each testicle," according to the Toronto Star.
Was Bieber ever in any real danger, though? The pop icon is used to all types of threats and unusual activity and has an entire security team, rather than just one bodyguard.
"We take every precaution to protect and ensure the safety of Justin and his fans," Melissa Victor, vice-president of media and artist relations for Island Def Jam Music Group, said in an email to the Star.
Bieber's tour was never interrupted and news of the murder plot are only being released now that everyone involved has been arrested.
