Rapper Kanye West, usually praised for his modern fashion sense, received criticism Wednesday night while performing at the " 12-12-12: The Concert for Sandy Relief" in New York City, as the famed musical artist was apparently wearing a leather dress.
Several viewers of the concert, which was live broadcasted on HBO, took to Twitter to express their surprise at Kanye's outfit choice, which fully included a leather dress with a sweatshirt that read "Pyrex" on the back.
"Well, it looks like Kanye West is wearing a leather dress under a hoodie called Pyrex. I think I'll go on to bed," tweeted Travis Fain.
"Where can I get Kanye West's leather dress? Said no one ever," tweeted Dana Weiss.
"Kanye West is sporting a black leather kilt tonight! He needs to stop letting Kim dress him in public," tweeted Tou Lee Yang.
West accompanied several other musicians and celebrities, including members of The Rolling Stones, political commentator Jon Stewart, and comedian Chris Rock at Madison Square Garden in New York City to raise funds for those affected by Hurricane Sandy, the October 2012 superstorm which ravaged counties along the East Coast, namely in New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut.
This is reportedly not the first time West, who is currently dating reality TV star Kim Kardashian, has opted to wear a leather skirt.
At his Madison Square Garden performance in November 2011, West wore a similar looking leather skirt with a long T-shirt covering the upper half.
West's latest outfit choice on Dec. 12 has attracted the ire, admiration, or at least amusement of viewers worldwide.
Proceeds from Wednesday's concert will go to the Robin Hood Relief Fund, which will use the funds to begin rebuilding the areas damaged by October's Sandy Superstorm.
