Kanye West's Nike sneakers, the Air Yeezy 2's, sold for a whopping $90,000 because of their limited edition status. Those vying for a rare pair of the shoes have been scrambling since June 9 to buy the $245 sneakers.

Kanye West's Nike sneakers are the second issue in his line of Air Yeezy shoes. Molded around the hip hop mogul's own foot, pre-orders for the shoes were driven up to more than 1,000 percent of the price. Many bids went up to $2,500, $3,500, and even $5,000 for the shoes, which Nike said were made and released sparingly.

One eBay user, however, Pinoyako4life, managed to gain national media attention after his pre-order sale ending June 6 ended at $90,300 after only 84 bids. The user, who is listed in California, was very secretive about his "source."

"Please do not ask about my source," read the auction page.

The bid for the black and pink Nike Air Yeezy 2's could have been a publicity ploy: some speculated that West himself had driven the price up himself for media attention. He has been wearing the sneakers for several months.

This second installment of the Air Yeezy's- the first released in 2009- comes with such luxuries as "hand skived anaconda textured leather quarter panels" and "a greater sense of symmetry and lock down," according to the Nike website. West's involvement in the shoe's design took on an "obsessive" approach, they said.

"Bringing the inspiration forward from the late 1980's basketball foundation of the original Nike Air Yeezy, the II is built on the Nike Air Tech Challenge II tennis shoe outsole and celebrates iconic Nike Cross Training silhouettes with the addition of the molded forefoot strap," reads the site.

The last time there was such pandemonium for sneaker was earlier this year, when Nike released pairs of the Nike Foamposite Galaxy sneakers- then, a single pair went for $70,000 on eBay. Earlier were the classic Air Jordans, re-released in December, and before that were the Marty McFly sneakers from "Back to the Future," which sold for $37,500.
