Katie Couric Engagement Ring: It's a 'Spectacular Diamond,' She Says (PHOTO)

Talk show host Katie Couric shared the first glimpse of her "spectacular diamond ring" on Wednesday night while attending the U.S. Open.

A day after announcing her engagement to two-year boyfriend John Molner, Katie Couric was spotted at the U.S. Open tennis matches wearing her new ring. The 56-year-old veteran journalist and her soon-to-be husband were photographed watching the women's singles quarter final match between Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia and Victoria Azarenka of Belarus at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

In the photograph, a large, square-cut diamond solitaire ring can be seen on Couric's engagement finger. When confirming her engagement to People magazine Tuesday, Couric noted that she had received a "spectacular diamond ring."

Recalling her East Hampton beach proposal, Couric explained that she was "stunned" when Molner proposed.

"It took me a while to say yes, because I was so confused!" Couric, 56, told People magazine. "It took a long time for my brain to process what was going on."

She confirmed her engagement news again Tuesday on Twitter.

"Yes it's true! So touched by all the kind Tweets & warm wishes-thank you! A great end to the summer & looking fwd to seeing you all Monday!!" she posted.

Couric lost her husband to colon cancer in 1998. When announcing her engagement, she admitted that she had always looked forward to remarrying.

"I knew that I wanted this," she told People. "I made it a priority, and I pursued it with some purpose."

Molner explained that he was glad to catch his future wife in a "rare" moment of surprise.

"Meeting Katie really changed my life," he told People. "I've loved getting to know her and her daughters, and I couldn't be happier. When she said yes, I was just elated. It was a great culmination to one of the best periods of my life."
