Katie Holmes is reportedly ready to re-enter the dating scene seven months after her divorce from actor Tom Cruise was finalized.
The 34-year-old single mom is said to be cautiously optimistic about finding love again due to an alleged fear of being controlled that stems from her 5-year marriage to Cruise, 50, according to RadarOnline.com.
"Katie's in a dilemma, because she wants to date but is concerned where it could lead to from there," a source allegedly told Radar.
"She's worried that if she commits herself fully to another man, she will have to give up the freedom she's enjoying so much at the moment," the source continued, adding "As a single woman, she has no one controlling her nowadays, telling her what to do or who to see and she absolutely loves it!"
The actress reportedly left Cruise blindsided with her 2012 divorce filing and while she is said to be happy that she is no longer married to the actor, she is also said to be somewhat lonely.
"She also misses being with someone special to share experiences with and she doesn't want to be alone for the rest of her life," the source said.
Holmes and Cruise began dating in 2005 while she was filming the movie "Thank You for Smoking." Although they were still in early stages of their relationship, Cruise allegedly approached the film's producers and instructed them to "kill" any promotional photos in which Holmes and her co-star Aaron Eckhart engaged in kissing or "anything else compromising."
While some observers allegedly perceived Cruise's behavior as a red flag, Holmes continued dating the "Rock of Ages" star, but his controlling ways were reportedly again exposed while she was promoting the 2005 movie "Batman Begins."
Cruise reportedly prohibited his then girlfriend from traveling with the film's cast members and ensured that she only use his private jet which allegedly "disgusted" one of her co-stars Morgan Freeman.
"Tom has always made all the decisions in their relationship and called all the shots and initially Katie found it charming -- don't forget, she was pretty young when they met and compared to Tom she was hardly worldly," a source previously told Radar. "After five years of this Katie really felt like she was going crazy and that she was actually turning into the robot that the press had always made her out to be."
