Katy Perry and 'Part of Me': It's Not About Russell Brand

Katy Perry has come out and denied the rumors that her new hit song "Part of Me" is about former husband Russell Brand, explaining that she wrote the song two years ago.

"I wrote it two years ago, which is funny because everybody is like 'God, it sounds so current,'" Perry, 27, told MTV News.

But she is determined to get the truth out there even if those around her say she should make the song about Brand.

"Some people that I work with were like, 'You should just say you wrote it a couple of weeks ago,'" Perry said.

"I'm like, 'I'm not a d---, I'm going to tell the truth.' I wrote it two years ago when I was writing and recording Teenage Dream, [but] it didn't feel right on the record," according to People magazine.

Teenage Dream was released in August 2010, just a few months before Perry and Brand got married in India. They filed for divorce just over a year later in December 2011.

Perry does see the irony that she wrote this powerful song just as she was about to get married and only released it after she was divorced.

"Sometimes I'm like, 'Am I living in The Truman Show?' ... What's going on?'" she says. "It just feels like sometimes I'm caught in this movie where my life is paralleling my music!"

Perry continued, saying "it seems very serendipitous, but, as un-fun as it sounds, I prepare everything. I'm overly prepared and kind of a control freak in the best of ways."

"I'm completely grateful because I know that not everything will always be this way," she told Access.

"Maybe if I continue to make sure I'm doing everything with the right motives, then hopefully, chromatically it will go well. But I have to live it up while I'm still young- while I'm 27!"
