The People's Choice Awards would have been the first time the 27-year-old singer has stepped into the limelight since Dec. 30, when British comedian Brand announced their divorce.

After 14 months of marriage and many rumors of a split, Brand released a statement to the Associated Press.

"Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage," said Brand. "I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."

Monday, Perry updated her Twitter account for the first time since the split, reassuring her fans that she was "happy again."

"I am so grateful for all the love and support I've had from people around the world," wrote Perry on the social media site. "You guys have made my heart happy again."

Despite her claim to be happy, many reports indicate that Perry is hesitant to make a public appearance because she is heartbroken over the split.

The next appearance the singer is scheduled to make are performances in Indonesia on January 19 and 22.

The 38th Annual People's Choice Awards will air live from Los Angeles' Nokia Theater Wednesday at 9 p.m., EST on CBS.
