Katy Perry Taking Break From Showbiz to 'Heal' Following Divorce

Katy Perry is reportedly taking a break from showbiz in order to properly recover from the breakdown of her marriage to Russell Brand, it has been revealed.

Brand filed for divorce in December, and the 27-year-old pop singer will take an extended break at the end of July to reflect and "heal," according to the Daily Mirror.

"I need to let my heart heal," Perry reportedly told the Daily Mirror when explaining her reasons for taking a break.

Perry will open up about her troubled marriage to Brand in the upcoming film, "Katy Perry: Part of Me."

The 3D documentary movie will explore the breakdown of their marriage and features scenes where Perry is reportedly reduced to tears by Brand.

"The whole movie is about overcoming obstacles, overcoming my family, my set of rules and belief systems," Perry said.

The pair wed in October of 2010 and separated 14 months later, and although neither party has confirmed what specifically caused the divorce, there is growing speculation that Brand, 36, is to blame.

"Katy tried to save the marriage. [Russell] made her feel ugly and fat and stupid," a source told Life & Style magazine.

"Katy was crying all the time and screaming about working too much ... it was obvious [the marriage] was close to over," the insider added.

The "Wide Awake" singer was said to be shattered after the British comedian filed for divorce, but does not regret their marriage and instead uses the experience to craft meaningful songs.

"Everybody asks me if I regret something, they ask me if it's going to be that one moment," Perry said in an interview with Mario Lopez. "Actually it's really a lesson learned and it's super valuable, I could not buy this lesson and I apply it to my life, I learn and a lot of the time, I get really good material for my songs."
