Kayden Powell Found Safe After Missing for 29 Hours, Newborn Located Over 200 Miles from Home

The hunt for a newborn infant taken from his parents' bedroom in Beloit, Wisconsin has been called off now that the baby boy named Kayden Powell has been found safely in West Branch, Iowa. His disappearance is still under investigation but his parents are thankful he was found safe and sound.

Brianna Marshall, Kayden's mother, and Bruce Powell, his father, were sound asleep in their room and awoke to find their son missing. The house was full of people, including Kristen Smith, the stepsister of Marshall, Powell's brother, and grandmother. Smith left just before the baby was discovered missing on Thursday.

Marshall immediately called 911 to report her son missing. There were no signs of forced entry at the house, and police responded quickly, and in force, to locate the missing child. The entire home is being processed as a crime scene.

An officer found the child in a tote bag outside a gas station in Iowa after hearing him cry. Officials said that Kayden appeared to be in good physical condition. Police also took Kristen Smith into custody after she was discovered in Iowa. Apparently her arrest had to do with an outstanding warrant and police said that she was being questioned in connection to Kayden's disappearance. Authorities did say that they were considering bringing charges against Smith. So far, no charges have been brought against her or anyone else.

Both Marshall and Powell have been cooperative with authorities and hope to soon learn what exactly happened to their baby boy, as do all those who prayed for Kayden's safe return. It's a unique situation that doesn't always have a happy ending, as it does in this case. Police took Kayen for a physical evaluation and will likely be reunited with his parents soon.

"The safe recovery of this child, it's miraculous," FBI Special Agent G.B. Jones said during a press conference announcing Kayden's recovery. He's an "amazingly resilient" baby, Jones added.
