Cereal makers Kellogg's has recalled boxes of their Frosted and Unfrosted Bite-Size Mini-Wheats over concerns about metal fragments in packages.

Kellogg's voluntarily recalled over 3 million boxes of the cereal on Thursday after a manufacturing malfunction left pieces of metal in some boxes.

"We have initiated a voluntary recall due to a possible presence of fragments of flexible metal mesh from a faulty manufacturing part," said the company in a statement, according to The Los Angeles Times.

The recall applies to boxes of Frosted and Unfrosted Bite-Size Mini-Wheats that have the letters KB, AP, or FK before or after the Best If Used Before date.

Kellogg's is encouraging customers who bought the recalled product to return it at the store where it was purchased or to contact the company through the Contact Us page on Kelloggs.com. Also, consumers can call 800-962-1413 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST Monday through Friday.

No injuries have been reported yet, and Kellogg's is working with retailers to remove the faulty boxes from shelves.

The recall is expected to cost Kellogg's between $20 million and $30 million.

Kellogg's includes several popular breakfast brands such as All Bran, Froot Loops, Rice Krispies, and the toaster pastry Pop Tarts, among others.

Food recalls are relatively common and are often the result of packaging errors. Also this week, Tyson Foods recalled nearly 70,000 pounds of chicken because of misbranding and undeclared allergens on the packages.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service said that Tyson's Buffalo Style Boneless Chicken Wyngz were packed in bags meant for Honey BBQ Flavored Chicken Wyngz and contain the allergens milk, soy and egg, which are not demarcated on the Honey BBQ Flavored Boneless Chicken Wyngz Label.

Consumers with questions about the recall should contact Tyson Foods' Consumer Relations.
