Kelly Clarkson and Others Join 'The Voice'

Kelly Clarkson is joining NBC’s “The Voice,” according to reports. The former “American Idol” winner will be part of a slew of celebrity mentors to contestants.

“The Voice” features teams of contestants who are assigned to celebrity team leaders. Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera are team leaders, and Clarkson will mentor Blake Shelton’s team.

Paul Telegdy, NBC’s president of late and alternative programming, told reporters, “These renowned musicians will bring their unique and recognizable musical styles to the teams. They are well-respected singers whose invaluable experience will be a tremendous asset to Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton’s artists.”

Clarkson was the first winner of Fox TV’s “American Idol” in 2002; she became a media sensation, appearing in movies, on TV, and releasing several albums. Her first single, “A Moment Like This” broke records by moving from 52 to first place on the “Billboard” Hot 100 Chart. Her latest hit is “Mr. Know It All,” which is doing well internationally.

Clarkson recently made headlines by saying she supported Ron Paul for President. “I love Ron Paul. I liked him a lot during the last Republican nomination and no one gave him a chance. If he wins the nomination for the Republican Party in 2012, he’s got my vote. Too bad he probably won’t.”

Other celebrities scheduled to appear on “The Voice” include Lionel Richie, Miranda Lambert, Jewel, Alanis Morissette, Robin Thicke, Ne-Yo, and Kenny ‘Babyface’ Edmonds.” The show premieres on NBC immediately following the Super Bowl on Feb. 5.
