Kendall Jenner Says Reality TV Stardom 'Worked Against' Her in Modeling World, Wasn't Taken 'Seriously'

Kendall Jenner recently complained about her struggle to be taken seriously in the modeling industry.

The reality TV star, 18, made her high-class runway debut during Paris Fashion Week earlier this year, but she acknowledged that landing the big time gig was not easy.

Jenner rose to stardom in recent years as the younger sister of Kim Kardashian and she claims that her family's hit reality TV show "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" has been some what of a curse.

"I was like, 'You know what?' I want to be high fashion. I want to be taken seriously … People think that this [success] just came to me. But it didn't. What I have has almost worked against me," Jenner told Love magazine.

In addition to landing a gig at Paris Fashion Week this year, the teenage model also hit the runway during London and New York fashion week. She previously made headlines when she walked the runway wearing a sheer shirt during the Marc Jacobs show.

"I had to work even harder to get where I wanted because people didn't take me seriously as a model ... because of the TV show," she explained.

"I went on castings and some people weren't feeling me because of my name. But it was great when people didn't recognize me. I was like, 'Thank you. Please don't recognize me,'" she added.

Jenner has worked alongside some of the biggest names in the modeling world including British models Cara Delevinge and Jourdan Dunn among others.

Earlier this month she wowed fans when she walked during the Chanel show - Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2014-2015 at Parish Fashion Week.

"She had to work extra hard to gain this respect and to fight for people to see she's serious," her sister Kim said.

"Marc Jacobs gave her a real shot and treated her like any other model … Then Riccardo [Tisci] and Karl [Lagerfeld] gave her a chance and she has proven that she is the real deal," she added.
