'Key & Peele' News, Update: Comedians Confirm Season 5 Will Be the Show's Last Run

Nothing good lasts forever, so they say. Co-creator and co-star of the critically-acclaimed sketch comedy TV series "Key & Peele," Keegan-Michael Key recently confirmed to the public that the show will end its run after the current Season 5.

Speaking to The Wrap, Key clarified that "this is our final season – and it's not because of Comedy Central, it's us."

"It was just time for us to explore other things, together and apart. I compare it to Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. We might make a movie and then do our own thing for three years and then come back and do another movie," the 44-year-old comedian said. "I'm thinking we could do that every three years – take a year, go bang out a movie. That's the plan right now."

In an interview for the publication's upcoming Emmy edition magazine, Key revealed that they have actually been keeping mum about the show's ending "but Jordan and I were talking yesterday, and we decided it's probably a good time to let people know."

Season 5 premiered on July 8 and will run into September. Key said that all of the episodes for the season have already been filmed.

"Key & Peele," co-written, co-created, and co-exec produced by Key and Peele, debuted on Jan. 31, 2012. The following year, the show won its first major award, the 2013 Peabody Award. It was also nominated for a 2013 Writers Guild Award as well as for a NAACP Image Awards.

TW said that Key is slated to appear for a New York-based film while Peele will direct a horror film he wrote. The duo first worked together for six seasons on "MadTV."
