Lamar Odom has reportedly requested a trial separation from his wife of three years, Khloe Kardashian.

The LA Clippers star is set to travel with his team mates for two weeks of away games, and the 33-year-old father of two will reportedly use that time to "think." The news comes less than two weeks after Kardashian, 28, insisted that she and Odom were not facing marital woes.

"He told Khloe he needs time to think and be away from her. He feels completely smothered by her. He feels like he has lost a lot of himself in their marriage and being a part of the whole Kardashian machine, and he is over it," a source reportedly told Life & Style magazine.

"Lamar just wants to be with his teammates and friends and let loose, he and Khloe were barely speaking when he left for his road games," the insider continued. "I wouldn't be surprised if he moved out after this separation. He is completely checked out."

The report follows months of speculation that the couple, who has openly struggled with fertility issues, is headed for a divorce.

In 2012 Odom posted some of his lowest NBA stats after being traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to the Dallas Mavericks, he subsequently joined the L.A. Clippers. Shortly after the drama surrounding his career, the couple axed their E! Reality TV show "Khloe & Lamar" following allegations that reality TV stardom was affecting his game.

A source told Star magazine that the reality TV show's cancellation was a direct result of the couple's crumbling marriage, describing the state of their marriage as being at a "point of no return."

A number of tabloids have also accused Odom of spending time in sleazy strip clubs on various occasions over the past 12 months. Sources allege that this behavior has only added strain to the marriage, but Kardashian recently dismissed the divorce reports herself.

"It is disgusting that Life & Style and InTouch magazines continue to print these false stories about my life: the status of my marriage, false reports about a miscarriage, the horrible lie that my dad is not my biological father, jealousy over my sisters' lives, etc," Kardashian wrote via her Celebuzz blog.

"It is a complete waste of time to address these reports every time they print these ridiculous and absurd tabloid stories, but not only are these stories untrue, they're also unfair to the people who buy the magazines expecting to read accurate reports," she continued.
