A device that could possibly be the Kindle Fire HD 2, or Kindle Fire 3, has appeared in a number of recent leaks, showing hints at the design and specs of the next generation Kindle Fire tablet.

@evleaks, a fairly reliable source for all things Android, released a picture of the upcoming device that reveals Amazon's decision to keep larger bezels and a heavy proprietary overlay. The leak also shows the tablet's interface that features updated UI improvements.

BGR released a picture of the device's backside. Both of the leaks point to the device launching in the near future.

The new Kindle Fire was also spotted in benchmarks recently where most of its specs were revealed.

The GFX bench entry was discovered on the Italian site Webtrek. The tablet appeared in the system with the codename Apollo/KFAPWA. The device featured a display with 2570x1600 resolution and ran an OS based on Android 4.2.2, JellyBean. It also came with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC with Adreno 330 GPU.

The screen size of the tablet was not revealed in the report.

Another recent report revealed that the new Kindle Fire HD would use the Snapdragon 800 SoC and come with 2GB RAM and 16/32/64GB of storage. Both reports confirmed Android 4.2.2 as the software and the older one stated that the 7-inch model would come with a 1920x1200 resolution display. The version in the new report is most likely the 8.9-inch model. The device is also expected to come with an 8-megapixel camera.

The Kindle Fire HD launched last year and succeeded the wildly successful original version. Amazon was one of the first players in the 7-inch tablet market and now has the task of competing with companies such as Apple and Google who have released similarly-sized devices for that market.
