Child actor turned evangelist Kirk Cameron will play the lead role in “Fireproof,” the latest film from the makers of last year’s acclaimed “Facing the Giants.”
The actor, whose film career includes the Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins-based series “Left Behind,” will play the role of Caleb Holt, a firefighter caught in a troubled marriage who discovers he must get right with the Lord to save his relationship.
Cameron said he decided to audition for the part because his belief that faith-based movies can make an impact, according to local sources.
"Faith, character, and hope and love. When we can do films that inspire those character traits in other people, that's a double gift,” Cameron told WALB news. “You get to make a living doing something you believe in and that impacts other people's lives.”
“Fireproof” is the third and largest production from the Kendrick brothers, who head the media ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Ga. The film follows the success of last year’s “Facing the Giants,” which centers on the life of a football coach who has never had a winning season in six years. The 2006 film lasted 17 weeks in theaters nationwide and sold over one million DVD units.
Filming for “Fireproof” is scheduled to wrap up by the first week of December. The movie will be released in the fall of 2008.
