Klitschko Bemused as Dereck Chisora Detained by Police

Heavyweight Boxing Champion Vitali Klischko proved his dominance in the ring as his opponent, Dereck Chisora, tried to prove his innocence to police after a post-fight brawl.

A German police spokesman confirmed that investigators wanted to interview both fighters over the fight, which occurred between British commentator David Haye and Chisora while he was conducting his post-fight news conference.

"Mr. Chisora was arrested after police went to the airport where he was at approximately 10:30 a.m.," the spokesman said. "At present, we do not know where Mr. Haye is. We are currently looking for him. He was not at the hotel this morning, and we have not seen him at the airport."

Chisora's promoter, Frank Warren, stated that German police went to Chisora's hotel room early Sunday morning "to make sure Dereck was OK." Warren was not aware of any plans to formally interview his fighter until he was informed by Sky News.

Warren described the brawl as "embarrassing" and said Chisora's threat to "shoot (Haye) in the street" and "burn him" after was "stupid" and "unacceptable."

But he did shift the focus and blame away from Chisora stating that, "It takes two to do what happened. I think both their actions were provocative," he said. "If David Haye doesn't come to the press conference, that stuff doesn't happen."

Warren also stated that video of the fight clearly showed Haye throwing the first punch.

This comes after Chisora was fined $50,000 for his pre-fight slap on Klitschko. WBC president Jose Sulaiman came out with harsh words for the fighter.

"This is definitely a lack of respect for the sport and completely unacceptable," Sulaiman told BoxingScene.com. "It was a cheap shot, and my message is that there is a fine, so [Chisora will] feel it."

The $50,000 fine will be divided equally between a children's charity in Germany and the WBC's own children's charity, according to BoxingScene.com.
