Kristen Bell's marriage to Dax Shepard only cost the Hollywood actors $142, the actor revealed on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Monday. Although the couple managed to have the "worst wedding ever" in his opinion, they don't mind and are happy together.
Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard had been engaged for three years but as gay marriage advocates, they refused to get married until the Defense of Marriage Act was struck down. Shepard revealed details about their Oct. 17 nuptials, which were far from the usual celebrity fanfare.
"We went to the Beverly Hills courthouse, and all in, with fuel to get there, $142 out the door," Shepard said. "I don't yet have a ring. I am going to follow your course, because you got your ring at Costco," he teased Kimmel.
"Friends of ours came to the courthouse, and it was just Kristen and I at this lonely courthouse, so they brought us this cake afterwards," he continued. "'The World's Worst Wedding.' How many people can say they threw 'The World's Worst Wedding'?"
The "Parenthood" star was inspired to do a stripped-down version of the ceremony of the courthouse after attending Kimmel's July 13 wedding in Ojai, Calif.
"There were helicopters overhead. It felt like an episode of M*A*S*H*," Shepard said. "Not that I was counting your money, but … it was flying out the windows. They were setting in on fire at this place!"
Shepard and Bell have been together for six years and are the parents of 7-month-old daughter Lincoln. Bell admitted that their life together isn't too different, though she did admit to enjoying "wife coffee" in the mornings a bit more in a recent tweet.
"It's slightly more exciting, it feels like we just had a holiday or something, but not much has changed," she told E! Online. "But we've been waiting for a long time, and for very specific reasons, and it was small and private and everything that we wanted."
