"Saturday Night Live" star Kristen Wiig has been named the GQ "Bro of the Year" in its annual Men of the Year issue.

One of the key things GQ lists in favor of Wiig winning the award is her ability to play many outrageous characters.

"For a lot of comics, there's a persona they're not comfortable revealing unless they're performing. Kristen is incredibly shy; she has her hoodie pulled up and her sleeves pulled over her hands," said John Hamm, her co-star in "Bridesmaids." But this is a woman who wore coconuts... on 'SNL'; she can go to the craziest, most grotesque places on the planet in character."

Wiig did a lingerie photo shoot in promotion of her GQ honor, and according to the Washington Post was very funny about the whole situation.

Wiig's latest movie, "Bridesmaids," which she co-wrote, has officially become the highest earning R-Rated comedy starring females ever.

The actress got into comedy by accident after taking an acting class in college to fulfill a requirement. After the teacher told her she was a natural she dropped out and moved to Los Angeles to begin looking for work when she joined The Groundings, a comedy troupe.

Wiig got her start on "SNL" in 2005 and became a regular cast member in early 2006.

Some of her reoccurring fan favorite characters include Penelope, Gilly the school girl, and the crazy Target Lady as well as impersonations of Elizabeth Hasselbeck, Nancy Pelosi, Michele Bachmann, and Suzie Orman.

Other film's she's been in were "Knocked Up," "Walk Hard," "Ghost Town," "Adventureland," and "Paul" while doing voice work in "Despicable Me" and "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs."

The comedienne won this year's Best Female Comedy Actress at the "Comedy Awards," and was named one PETA's 2011 Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrities.
