Kristen Wiig has officially joined the cast of the highly anticipated sequel to "Anchorman" on Tuesday.

"Anchorman: The Legend Continues," or "Anchorman 2" as it is often called, will feature Wiig as the wife of the mentally deficient weatherman Brick Tamland, portrayed by Steve Carrell.

While Wiig's character has not yet received a name, the "Saturday Night Live" star will definitely add depth and even more humor to the "Anchorman" cast.

The film's director Adam McKay confirmed Wiig as a cast member via Facebook on Tuesday.

"Kristen Wiig is officially on board for 'Anchorman 2,'" wrote the director. "Couldn't be more excited."

McKay also posted the news to Twitter, where he added a famous quote from the first "Anchorman" movie - "Cannonball!"

Furthermore, "Anchorman" star Christina Applegate also shared her reaction to Wiig's addition to the cast.

"So excited Kristen Wiig has joined our cast for anchorman2," wrote the actress. "Going 2 be best movie ever made. Besides the best movies ever made."

Wiig will join Applegate, Carrell, and Will Ferrell in the upcoming comedy film as they reprise their roles as Veronica Corningstone, Tamland, and Ron Burgundy.

It is also rumored that "Legally Blonde" star Luke Wilson will also join the "Anchorman 2" cast, according to Yahoo Movie News.

"Anchorman 2" will not be Wiig's first time on the big screen. The 39-year-old actress co-wrote and starred in 2011's "Bridesmaids," which earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in addition to Academy Award and BAFTA nominations for Best Original Screenplay.

Wiig's other credits include films "Adventureland," "MacGruber," and the animated comedy "Despicable Me."

"Anchorman 2" will premiere on Dec. 20, 2013.

"Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy" first hit theaters in 2004. The tongue-in-cheek comedy takes place in San Diego, California during the '70's. The film made Bravo's 100 funniest movies list, and was number 113 on Empire's 500 Greatest Movies of All Time list.
