'Krypton' Series News: Series About Superman's Home Planet Greenlighted

While the word Krypton is always associated with Superman as his home planet, little is known about it, be in the comic books, movies, or in TV series. However, fans of the Man of Steel may finally have a better understanding and possibly marvel at Krypton as a live-action series about the planet has already been green lighted for production.

Simply titled "Krypton," the series will debut on the cable network Syfy in a still undisclosed date. It will be executive produced by Damian Kindler who is known for his "Sleepy Hollow" work and will be helmed by Colm McCarthy of "Peaky Blinders."

"Krypton" will run on a teleplay script that Kindler and David Goyer have rewritten, basing on the original story of Goyer and Ian Goldberg. It will feature characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

This upcoming Syfy series will serve as a prequel of sort to all Superman stories as it will feature the Man of Steel's home planet two generations earlier before he was born. It will follow the adventures and saga of Superman's grandfather as he works on redeeming the lost honor of his family after his House of El was stripped of its dignity and shamed.

It was in 1979 when Krypton was highlighted via a comic book mini-series titled "World of Krypton," which gave a detailed history of Superman's home planet before it had its demise. However, most "Superman" stories, whether animated or live-action features, only showcase the planet moments before its explosion as the pod that carries the still-baby Superman escapes.

In the original depiction of Superman, it is described that all citizens of the planet perished after its explosion and only Superman survived. However, in the succeeding re-telling of Superman, it is discovered that only not the Man of Steel who has survived the explosion as Supergirl, Krypto the Superdog, the criminal inhabitants of Phantom zone, and many others also made it out alive.
