KTLA News Anchors Hide Under Desk When 4.4-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Los Angeles (VIDEO)

Credit :

A 4.4-magnitude earthquake hit Los Angeles Monday morning, centered six miles north of Beverly Hills. KTLA was broadcasting a morning show from its Hollywood studios when the tremor struck, and anchors Chris Schauble and Megan Henderson reacted just like kids learn in school.

As Henderson goes into a commercial break, Schauble puts up one finger and announces, "Earthquake. We're having an earthquake!" The anchors duck under their desk as the camera pulls back to a wide shot of the trembling studio.

While online commenters call the anchors' reaction over-the-top, seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones of the U.S. Geological Survey says it was "absolutely the right thing to do."

"People who are laughing at them for doing it, you don't know at the beginning how big an earthquake's going to be," Jones said to KTLA. "You might feel a little silly doing it for the small ones, but when the big one happens, it means you stay alive after the lights come crashing down."
