Kurt Cobain Birthday Today, Singer Remembered

Kurt Cobain fans are remembering the late grunge rocker on what would have been his 46th birthday on Wednesday.

Born Kurt Donald Cobain on Feb. 20, 1976, singer went on to become achieve stardom at age 24 as frontman of Nirvana, of which he also served as guitarist and primary songwriter.

Since Nirvana's debut with Cobain as a songwriter, the group has sold over 25 million albums in the U.S. alone, and over 50 million worldwide.

Plagued with an addition to heroin and with depression, Cobain also struggled to manage his fame and public image. Then, in 1990, the singer married Hole singer Courtney Love. The couple had a daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, born on Aug. 18, 1994, but Cobain continued to struggle with professional and personal struggles- including the pressures surrounding his marriage.

On April 8, 1994, the musician was found dead in his Seattle home. Four days earlier, Cobain had died of suicide by a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head.

On Wednesday, Nirvana fans are honoring Cobain with posts to social media sites, and Kurt Cobain became a trending topic on Twitter.

One Twitter user posted, "Happy birthday, Kurt Cobain. Your legacy will live on forever as you are an icon to the music industry. Thank you for your music."

"To me, Kurt Cobain is the greatest," started The Grunge Scene via Twitter. "I've listened to his music everyday for over 20 years. No one will ever do better. We miss you Kurt!"

Stewart wrote, "Happy Birthday Kurt Cobain. Gone but never forgotten #Legend"

Furthermore, Cobain's hometown of Aberdeen, Washington has honored the singer with a sign: "Welcome to Aberdeen- Come As You Are," quoting Nirvana's hit song.

February 20th also marks the birthday of Rihanna- the "Diamonds" singer turned 25 on Wednesday.
